A hearty and comforting dish perfect for family dinners. These tender cabbage leaves are filled with a savory mix of meat, rice, and spices, then baked in a rich tomato sauce until perfectly tender.
Ingredients:
1 medium head of cabbage
1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
½ cup uncooked rice
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 egg
1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp dried dill (or fresh)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the cabbage: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Gently remove the cabbage leaves and blanch them for a few minutes until soft and pliable.
2. Make the filling: In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, uncooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
3. Assemble the rolls: Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each cabbage leaf. Fold the sides over and roll tightly to seal.
4. Cook the rolls: Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls in a baking dish. In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, tomato paste, olive oil, dill, salt, and pepper. Pour the sauce evenly over the rolls.
5. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 1 hour, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
Serve warm and enjoy a delicious, old-fashioned meal that’s full of flavor and love.
