Old Fashioned Fudge – Don’t Lose This
Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
4 tablespoons Hershey’s cocoa
1 stick of salted butter
5 ounce can of Carnation Evaporated Milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Nuts (optional)
Directions:
Prepare Your Ingredients:
Gather all your ingredients and have them ready. Grease a square baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
Mix Sugar and Cocoa:
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar and Hershey’s cocoa. Mix well to ensure there are no lumps.
Add Butter and Milk:
Add the stick of salted butter and the can of Carnation Evaporated Milk to the saucepan. Place the saucepan over medium heat.
Boil the Mixture:
Stir constantly until the butter melts and the mixture starts to boil. Continue to stir and let it boil for about 5 minutes. Be careful to avoid scorching.
Test for Soft Ball Stage:
To ensure the fudge is ready, use a candy thermometer and cook until the mixture reaches the soft ball stage (about 234°F to 240°F). If you don’t have a thermometer, you can drop a small amount of the mixture into a cup of cold water. If it forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from the water, it’s ready.
Add Vanilla and Nuts:
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. If using, add the nuts at this stage and mix well.
Beat the Mixture:
Beat the fudge mixture with a wooden spoon until it thickens and loses its gloss. This should take about 5-10 minutes.
Pour and Set:
Pour the fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly. Allow it to cool completely before cutting into squares.
Serve:
Cut the cooled fudge into squares and serve. Enjoy your classic Old Fashioned Fudge!
