Turkey Swedish Meatballs
Lean ground turkey meatballs simmered in a creamy, savory sauce—comforting, flavorful, and a bit lighter than the traditional beef version.
Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:
1 lb ground turkey
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp ground allspice (optional, but traditional)
1/4 tsp garlic powder
For the Creamy Sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth (or chicken broth for lighter flavor)
1/2 cup sour cream
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Make the meatballs: In a bowl, mix ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, milk, and seasonings. Roll into small meatballs (about 1 inch).
Cook the meatballs: Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook meatballs in batches until browned on all sides and cooked through (about 10–12 minutes). Remove and set aside.
Make the sauce: In the same skillet, melt butter. Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux. Slowly whisk in broth until smooth. Simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
Finish the sauce: Reduce heat and stir in sour cream. Season with salt and pepper. Add the cooked meatballs back to the sauce and simmer for 5 more minutes.
Serve: Spoon over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
