Cinnamon-Spiced Apple Date Paste
Ingredients:
– 1 cup Medjool dates, pitted
– 1 cup dried apples, chopped
– 1/2 cup water
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– Pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. In a small saucepan, combine the pitted dates, dried apples, and water. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the fruits are soft and have absorbed most of the water.
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
3. Transfer the mixture to a food processor. Add the ground cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed. If the paste is too thick, you can add a little more water to reach your desired consistency.
4. Taste and adjust the sweetness or spice levels as needed, adding more cinnamon or a touch of honey if desired.
5. Once blended to your liking, transfer the paste into clean, sterilized jars. Seal tightly.
Storage Instructions:
Store the Cinnamon-Spiced Apple Date Paste in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks. For longer storage, you can freeze the paste in ice cube trays and transfer to a freezer-safe bag for up to 6 months.
This paste makes a delightful spread for toast, a sweet addition to oatmeal, or a flavorful ingredient in baking. Enjoy the warm, comforting flavors of cinnamon and apple combined with the natural sweetness of dates!
