Steak Mashed Potatoes with Gravy
Ingredients:
For the Steak:
2 ribeye steaks (or your preferred cut)
1 tablespoon olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cloves garlic, smashed
1 sprig fresh rosemary
For the Mashed Potatoes:
4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 cup milk
4 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Gravy:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon soy sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Start by boiling the potatoes: Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until tender. Drain and return to the pot.
For the mashed potatoes, add butter, milk, salt, and pepper to the drained potatoes. Mash until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
While the potatoes are cooking, heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season the steaks with salt and pepper.
Sear the steaks in the skillet for 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Add smashed garlic and rosemary to the skillet during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Remove the steaks and set them aside to rest.
For the gravy, in the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, until it turns golden. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and soy sauce, then bring to a simmer. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
To serve, plate the mashed potatoes, top with the steak, and drizzle with the gravy.
